I learned something very interesting yesterday; I found humility and freedom in ballet.
I decided to go to a ballet class. It is part of my objectives to go out at least once per day and the ballet class was it. The class was a makeup class for several students and I was in the class with dancers from 8 to 16. It was humbling but also freeing at the same time.
There was no expectation on me which felt amazing. I was able to soak up all the knowledge and apply it in a safe space. A huge thank you to the teacher. I was a drop in guest but he also would give me advice or feedback on some of the combinations across the floor. It was almost as if it was a master class with no pressure.
I was very excited because we reviewed several steps, one in particular: tombe-coupe-jete. Which is basically a step with a turn to throwing your leg out in front of you. If you want to see how it is done, I would recommend Katherine Morgan’s tutorial. She is the online instructor I started with and is an amazing teacher. I am hoping to attend her summer intensives sometime.
The last few ballet classes I’ve taken have been amazing. There has been a freedom and enjoyment of the art.
I’ve found that the best way to progress is really enjoying the art. I feel true humility and freedom when I dance now.
